Copy AutoText Word 2003 and 2007

Microsoft Office 2003

AutoText is a shortcut feature of Microsoft Word

When transferring files to a new computer you do not want to type all your AutoText again.

Create a template in Word :-
Click File --> New
Click Template
Click Ok

Now click Tools --> Macro --> Macros --> Organizer
Click AutoText tab
Now Click on the entries in your Normal.dot file you want to transfer
Click Copy
Click Close
Now Save the template to your desktop or My Documents
Copy this file to a CD or USB disk

Load this onto the new computer
Open the template
Now do the same as above but copy to the Normal.dot


For Word 2007

Open Windows Explorer
Copy the Normal.dot template from
%userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\ to
%userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Document Building Blocks\
In Office Word 2007, open the template Normal.dot from the new folder
Save the file as AutoText.dotx.

To view the entries and use, click the Office Button
Click Word Options
Click Customize
Click "All Commands" under Choose Command from:
Click "AutoText"
Click "Add"
Click "OK"

Now you can see the AutoText button at the top left of the screen, click on it to use your AutoText
