Sync synchronize synchronise contacts files email Hi All, HOW CAN I SYNCHRONIZE MY MOBILE PHONE ? BEFORE YOU START INFORMATION ABOUT SYNCHRONIZE There are a number of different methods of sync for emails, contacts, calendars, Pictures, Music, Videos, Documents and all other files/folders Each method usually has different options and also field names so depending on the computer, mobile, tablet, tv etc The options are numerous and you may find that the options are completely different from one device to another e.g favourites can be called booksmarks, contacts can be called people I recently imported someone"s contacts and because Email was spelt differently (E-Mail) it didn"t import that field until I linked the 2 together The only way you can find out what options are available is by connecting the device to a computer, downloading the drivers and software for that device. Once you open the software and you can see what sync options are available. METHODS TO SYNCHRONIZE Microsoft Account Gmail account Hotmail Account Yahoo Account Microsoft Exchange Microsoft Outlook Windows Mail Mobile Phone Software iTunes Cloud Other Webmail Account You can choose which method you want and you may decide to use more than one method WHERE DO I START ? Backup everything on the mobile device, especially your contacts How do I do this ? You can usually export contacts from a device to a file on a connected computer or the SD card on that device. Most mobile phone software e.g. Nokia Suite, will include a backup option for everything on the device This allows you to recover to the current position if it all fails PLEASE NOTE: You need to set aside time to do this, it is not going to take 5 mins I managed to consolidate all my contacts between 3 devices, it tooks approx 2 hours HINTS You may want to setup a new account to use for synchronising which you can delete later. This will allow you to try out synchronize before you do it for real or if you have errors in your phone book, like all numbers are set to Mobile (Bill) 1. Backup the Data on the device 2. Setup a new Gmail or Outlook Account 2. Synchonize everything or just contacts/people with that account 3. Export the contacts to a file, usually CSV (which Excel can read) 4. Make your corrections in Excel 5. Delete all contacts in the Gmail/Outlook account 6. Import the corrected Conatcts into the Gmail/Outlook Account 7. Re-Sync your device This is just a brief introduction as the options are far too numerous to cover and everyone will want to use a different method GOOD LUCK, and please note the disclaimer at the bottom of this page HISTORY LESSON When MSN messenger first allowed synchronizing with Mobile Devices, it only Synchronized one way, from the Messenger Account to the Mobile Device. Unfortunately a bug in their software caused many users to lose all the contacts on their Mobile Phones. Did they have them backed up? I think you know the answer IP | ||||
